Week 11 Students of Room 21 were highly engrossed in an ANZAC activity - a challenge to design their own morse code system, then send their messages to team members standing at the far end of the room, provided by Manon! No one was allowed to talk as part of the exercise. Teams shared their morse code designs at the end of the day, after being given three separate scenarios to communicate to their troops - a very authentic exercise indeed! We have been learning about similes in writing and how to make them more exciting and meaningful. Similes compare two nouns by using 'as (adjective) as' OR '(verb) like ....' We looked at pictures of old ladies sitting around knitting and a mother hen and her chicks. Take a look at the different similes that pairs of students came up with as part of their learning.

Room 21's Multicultural Day 2016 on PhotoPeach
Hello Everyone,
It was lovely to meet many parents at the three-way goal setting conferences this week. Thank you for coming. Our multicultural day was hugely successful. The children enjoyed sharing their posters showing interesting information from their cultures and it was a great learning experience speaking in front of their class audience.
Our ILP (Innovative Learning Practice) programme seems to be working well and all students know where they should be and when for Reading, Writing and Enquiry. They understand the importance of managing themselves and drawing on each others' expertise during Enquiry learning. We have been incredibly lucky to have Mannon Post with us, who has finished her schooling in New Zealand and is now on a semi-gap year before embarking on her tertiary studies at Durham University in England in September. She works incredibly well with all the students and they love having her in the Totara Room.
We are excited about Camp in Week 6. You should all have your blue coloured lists now showing what equipment etc is required to be taken. We are working with the children this week and next to brief them on camp and prepare them with information so that they may experience the best time possible right the way through.
Thanks for your continuing support at home.
